Fashion Photography

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of photography with a focus on fashion-related applications. Students will develop an understanding of basic camera functions and technical settings, including exposure, composition, lighting, and perspective. Emphasis is placed on building confidence in camera operation while exploring how photography can be used to effectively showcase and enhance fashion design work.

Learning Objectives


Upon completion of this course, the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  • Understand and apply basic photography principles including exposure, composition, lighting, and perspective in fashion-focused work.

  • Confidently operate a camera and utilize its key functions to produce well-composed photographic images.

  • Use photography as a tool to effectively document, present, and enhance fashion design concepts and projects.

Donna Dowling

INSTRUCTOR –Fashion Design

Donna’s background in psychology, education, and instructional design led her to teach Interior Decorating at Algonquin College, sparking her transition to design. After studying art and architecture at Carleton, she launched a residential decorating firm and online consulting service, working with clients across Munich, San Diego, and Ottawa.
