Intro to Interior Design

Indulge your passion for design as you blend artistic inspiration with new technical skills. Transform your ideas from basic concepts into a finished professional presentation for a client. This course provides a broad overview of residential interior design for individuals considering a career in the industry or simply wishing to work on their own design projects at a more skilled level.

What you'll learn
in this program

Students will learn the fundamentals of design principles and styles, gain skills in space planning and the design process, and develop the ability to communicate concepts effectively. They’ll also explore kitchen and bathroom design, material and finish selection, working with suppliers, and creating digital sample boards.

Students will gain a foundational understanding of the core principles that guide effective and visually appealing design.

Students will learn to identify and differentiate between various design styles, enhancing their ability to create cohesive and personalized spaces.

Students will develop basic skills in space planning, learning how to organize and arrange interior layouts for functionality and flow.

Students will develop foundational knowledge in designing functional and stylish kitchens and bathrooms, focusing on layout, materials, and practical considerations.

Students will learn how to choose appropriate finishes and materials to enhance both the aesthetics and functionality of a space.

Students will develop the skills to create digital sample boards that visually communicate design concepts and material selections.

Lucia Volker

Instructor

Lucia Volker is a designer and visual artist. She focuses on combining interior design and fine art to create engaging spaces. Lucia has worked in the design industry for the past four years, and previously worked in real estate and nonprofit art administration. Through her art practice, she has collaborated with the City of Victoria and the Victoria Arts Council to create large-scale installations for temporary public art initiatives. She is a 2024 graduate of Pacific Design Academy’s Interior Design Program, and holds a Bachelor of Fine Art in Printmaking from the University of Utah.
