Motion Design

Motion Design introduces students to the principles of Motion Design, focusing on integrating graphic design elements with 3D design and time-based media. Students will explore key concepts such as modelling, texturing, lighting, keyframing, and visual storytelling while learning to use industry-standard software like Cinema 4D and Octane Render. The course emphasizes creating animations and still media to enhance brand narratives, user interfaces, and marketing collateral.

Learning Objectives


Upon completion of this course, the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  • Demonstrate the foundational principles of motion design – timing, pacing, easing, modelling, texturing, lighting, and rendering.

  • Integrate motion into graphic design projects, such as logos, typography, and layouts.

  • Utilize key motion design software Maxon Cinema 4D and Otoy OctaneRender software to create engaging content.

  • Develop storyboards and animatics to plan motion sequences.

  • Create compositions with integrated dynamic motion to enhance user engagement and enhance the communication of brand stories effectively.
