Kitchen & Bath Design 1

This course is the first in a series of three focused on Kitchen and Bath Design and introduces students to the core knowledge and practices of the field. It emphasizes the standards and guidelines established by the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA), which shape the industry's professional practices. Students will explore key areas including space planning and design, product selection and specifications, construction methods, related trades and building systems, project management, and the tools used for technical drawing and presentation. By the end of the Interior Design program, students who complete this course series will be well-prepared to begin pursuing NKBA certification, should they choose to do so.

Learning Objectives


Upon completion of this course, the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  • Understand the fundamental concepts of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and its applications in interior design.

  • Navigate the AutoCAD interface and understand its tools and functionalities.

  • Create accurate and scaled 2D drawings for interior spaces.

  • Apply layers, linotypes, and colours to organize and differentiate drawing elements.
  • Utilize basic drawing and editing commands to create and modify design elements. .

  • Generate precise measurements and dimensions within drawings.

  • Incorporate symbols, furniture, and fixtures into interior design drawings.

Daniel Mantecon

INSTRUCTOR –Interior Design

Dany is an Industrial Designer from Mexico who began as a painter and muralist. He later studied Interior Design in Montreal and now runs a furniture design workshop while working with several contractors in Victoria. Outside of work, he enjoys sports and spending time with his dog, Lula.
