CMS For Web (WordPress)

A Content Management System (CMS) is a software application that allows users to create, manage, and modify content on a website—often without writing code. This course introduces the core functions and features of a CMS and how they support effective website creation and maintenance. Through hands-on practice with WordPress, a widely used CMS, students will learn foundational skills for building and managing websites.

Learning Objectives


Upon completion of this course, the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  • Describe the structure of a web service stack (operating system, web server, database, and client-side website).

  • Install and configure a local WordPress development environment.

  • Work effectively with WordPress themes, plugins, and widgets.

  • Publish/deploy a site from a local sandbox to a live environment.

  • Locate and use online WordPress documentation and support resources.

Nabil Nazri, a recent Computer Science graduate from the University of Victoria, grew up across Malaysia, Qatar, and Indonesia. Drawn to Victoria’s welcoming feel and diverse community, he now calls it home. Passionate about coding, music, and languages, he’s contributed to nonprofits and student leadership—and aims to become a full-stack developer and launch his own SaaS startup.
