Be an Actor! (Performance & Stage Skills)

This 5-hour workshop introduces Grade 8–11 students to actor performance through movement, voice, character, and short scenes. Students explore what it’s like to perform as an actor in a supportive, fun environment. No acting experience is required.

In this workshop, you will experience what it’s like to perform as an actor, build confidence through voice, movement, and expression, and collaborate with others in short, engaging performance activities.

 

  • Actor warm-ups (voice, movement, presence) 
  • Performance games and improvisation 
  • Exploring emotion and character

 

  • Short scenes and acting exercises  
  • Performing for stage or camera
  • Group sharing and reflection

Deanna Milligan

Instructor

Deanna Milligan is a Leo-nominated, Gemini Award winning Canadian actor and filmmaker. She has appeared in numerous film and television productions including Suspicious River, Big Sound, The X-Files, NorthWood, Da Vinci’s Inquest, and Corner Gas.

In addition to her extensive acting career, Milligan is also an accomplished director. She co-directed the feature film LUCID, which premiered at the 2025 Fantasia International Film Festival, expanding on her award-winning short of the same name.

Her work both as an actor and filmmaker is noted for its emotional depth and exploration of memory and imagination
