Professional Photography & Imaging

Full-Time Two-Years Diploma. Next intake September 27th, 2024.

Graduates of Professional Photography & Imaging - two year program will have both the Technical and Entrepreneurial skills to run a successful Photography business offering a wide variety of services including Corporate and Personal Portraiture, Weddings, Commercial, Product Photography, Fashion Photography, Advertising, Retouching, and Business Principles. Students are also taught how to create and edit video.

Components of the program focus on the fundamental use of the modern digital camera, exposure components such as: ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed and White Balance. We cover digital image capture, creative exposure, lighting, composition, photographic technologies, image Processing & Enhancing techniques using Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) and the industry standard Adobe Photoshop.

Students will have the opportunity to develop a unique and individual photographic style, while showcasing industry expected skills that meet the needs of current and future clients. Students will develop business and career assets that are relevant to today’s professional photography and imaging industry.  

Classes include Photographic Light & Composition, Studio Lighting techniques, Portraiture, Photojournalism, Commercial photography, Fine Art photography, Experimental photography, Business of photography, Video, basic Graphic Design and Portfolio development.

This program has been approved by the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training.

      • Retouching tools for removing blemishes, wrinkles, and other imperfections.

      • Comprehensive RAW file support with adjustments for exposure, contrast, and color.
      • Noise reduction and sharpening tools specifically designed for RAW images.

Course Overviews

Students gain a comprehensive understanding of the technical components of digital photography and studio lighting.

For students to gain a comprehensive understanding of the technical and professional components of Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop pertaining to metadata, archiving, professional retouching and restoration.

Although art by its nature is an intuitive process, there are many techniques that are very useful to help you create and analyze your work and its individual merit. This course is designed to provide insights into Colour and the ‘Elements of Design’. With an understanding of these basic elements, students will be able to create an articulate analysis of theirs and other designer’s work—why do some things work and others do not!

For students to gain a comprehensive understanding of how everyday surroundings impact an image in regards to light, texture, material and composition.

For students to gain a comprehensive understanding of how imaging equipment functions and will learn the biology behind the technology. Students will dissect imaging equipment for a greater knowledge of why imaging equipment works the way it does.

For students to gain a comprehensive understanding of current and past conflicts within the arts industry and how to overcome them Students will grasp the concept of why certain trends are used in the industry and what effect they display.

For students to gain a comprehensive understanding of composition, perspective, line, colour, texture and light and how they can be used to create various emotions.

To help students to gain a comprehensive understanding of the photographic medium and its place in the world of Art.

For students to gain a comprehensive understanding of the history behind photographic art and its photographers. The course provides students with an opportunity to create their own Art and understand why it is considered Art.

This class will cover video technologies and audio design as they apply to the worldwide web and interactive technologies. Subjects include video editing, audio design, motion graphics, video compression, web embedding, and optimization. For students to gain a comprehensive understanding of the video setting on DSLR cameras while utilizing past knowledge obtained in Visual Communications and Photographic Techniques courses.

Develop an ability to analyze type, to discuss it using specialized vocabulary, to choose appropriate type treatments for design, and to acquire a sensitivity to the impact of effective type choices. Additionally this class will introduce Adobe Illustrator as a Type and Drawing tool. There is a strong technical start in Postscript Graphics using Adobe Illustrator. Students will gain a basic understanding of the structure and use of Adobe InDesign and its use as a publication tool. Students should be able to build, edit, and save documents that would successfully print commercially. We will also look at online publishing services.

To open the students to the concept of what is New. To get the students to expand their conceptual and technical skills into areas that are unfamiliar to them.
