Why you should study with us:

This 6-week course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of personal styling. Through a combination of theoretical and practical sessions, students will learn the fundamentals of styling, such as body shapes, color theory, and fabric selection.


Students will also gain hands-on experience in styling for different occasions and clients. The course will also cover specialized styling and business skills necessary to establish a successful career as a fashion stylist.


The midterm and final projects will allow students to apply their learning and showcase their styling abilities. By the end of the course, students will have the necessary skills, knowledge, and portfolio to kickstart their journey as a fashion stylist.

Course Length: 6 weeks: 36 hours

Course Hours: 5:30 – 8:30pm. Tuesdays & Thursdays

Fees: $595.00 plus $25 nonrefundable registration fee. Taxes included.

This program does not require approval by the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training. As such, PTIB did not review this program.

Objective:
 
The objective of this course is to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to  understand the concepts of a fashion stylist. By the end of the 6 weeks, students will be able to confidently style clients of different body shapes, skin tones, and budgets for various occasions. They will also have a strong understanding of colour theory, fabric and texture, elements of design, and wardrobe organization.

Course Outline

Class 1: 

Topic: Introduction to Personal Styling
– Definition and scope of personal styling
– History of personal styling
– Role and responsibilities of a personal stylist – Importance of personal style

Class 2: 

Topic: Body Shapes and Proportions
– Understanding different body shapes and proportions
– How to determine a client’s body shape
– Proportion play: dressing to flatter different body shapes

Class 3: 

Topic: Colour Theory
– Basics of colour theory
– Colour palettes and mood boards
– Choosing colours according to skin tone, hair colour and eye colour – Colour psychology in dressing

Class 4:

Topic: Fabric and Texture
– Identifying different types of fabrics
– Understanding fabric textures and how to use them
– Layering techniques
– Incorporating different fabrics to create different looks

Class 5:

Topic: Elements of Design
– Understanding the principles of design
– Using lines, shapes, patterns and proportions in styling – Incorporating design elements in different outfits

Class 6:

Topic: Accessories and Styling for Different Occasions
– Types of accessories and how to use them to elevate an outfit
– Styling for different occasions such as formal events, work, and casual outings – Creating a cohesive and balanced look with accessories

Class 7:

Topic: Wardrobe Organization and Personal Shopping
– Principles of wardrobe organization
– Creating a personal shopping list
– Personal shopping for different budgets and body types

Class 8: 

Midterm project:
– Creating a personal styling portfolio
– Presenting a styled outfit for a specific occasion or client

Class 9:

Topic: Men’s Styling
– Understanding men’s body shape, proportions, and color palette – Styling for different occasions
– Incorporating accessories and layering techniques for men

Class 10:

Topic: Specialized Styling
– Wedding styling
– Maternity styling
– Plus-size styling
– Styling for different age groups

Class 11:

Topic: Marketing and Business Skills for Personal Stylists – Branding yourself as a personal stylist
– Using social media for marketing
– Building a client base and networking
– Pricing and invoicing

Class 12:

Final Project:
– Creating a personal styling plan for a client from start to finish
– Presenting the final look and explaining the styling choices
– Discussion on challenges faced and how they were overcome.
