Graduates will be employable as assistants, photographers or digital retouchers in small studios, newspapers, web development companies, service bureaus, digital processing labs or self-owned businesses. Graduates will have both technical and entrepreneurial skills needed to run a successful business offering a variety of services such as but not limited to: photojournalism, weddings, portraits, public relations, commercial, industrial, retouching/manipulation, advertising, publication, tourism, graphic design and fine art.

Design & Presentation
Although art by its nature is an intuitive process, there are many techniques that are very useful to help you create and analyze your work and its individual merit. This course is designed to provide insights into Colour and the ‘Elements of Design’. With an understanding of these basic elements, students will be able to create an articulate analysis of theirs and other designers work—why do some things work and others do not!

Technology of Imaging
For students to gain a comprehensive understanding of how imaging equipment functions and will learn the biology behind the technology. Students will dissect imaging equipment for a greater knowledge of why imaging equipment works the way it does.
Issues & Trends
For students to gain a comprehensive understanding of current and past conflicts within the arts industry and how to overcome them Students will grasp the concept of why certain trends are used in the industry and what effect they display.

Photographic Art History
For students to gain a comprehensive understanding of the history behind photographic art. The course provides students with an opportunity to create their own art with a digital camera and understand why it is considered art.
This class will cover video technologies and audio design as they apply to the worldwide web and interactive technologies. Subjects include video editing, audio design, motion graphics, video compression, web embedding, and optimization. For students to gain a comprehensive understanding of the video setting on DSLR cameras while utilizing past knowledge obtained in Visual Communications and Photographic Techniques courses.
Develop an ability to analyze type, to discuss it using specialized vocabulary, to choose appropriate type treatments for design, and to acquire a sensitivity to the impact of effective type choices. Additionally this class will introduce Adobe Illustrator as a Type and Drawing tool. There is a strong technical start in Postscript Graphics using Adobe Illustrator. Students will gain a basic understanding of the structure and use of Adobe InDesign and its use as a publication tool. Students should be able to build, edit, and save documents that would successfully print commercially. We will also look at online publishing services.

Raised in Victoria and trained at BCIT in Burnaby, Shaun has been a Videographer & Editor since 2006. His video career has ranged from music video productions to short films to video analysis with Rugby Canada. In addition to his interest in making films, he is also an admitted cinephile — plural noun: cinephiles — a person who is fond of motion pictures.
A degree in Photojournalism, and a Master of Photographic Arts with PPOC (Professional Photographers of Canada), Lilo’s 36 years of photographic experience includes; photojournalism, fashion, events, commercial portraiture and fine art photography. A Masters Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Victoria, Jonathan brings the artists eye for colour and form to all the classes he teaches. With over 20yrs as a graphic designer, instructor, and recently as Creative Director for a cloud software company responsible for Canada’s first online stock exchange – the NEO Exchange, Jonathan’s skills go from traditional hand made designs to online web pages and Apps. His life long interest in Photography as a story telling medium compliments his Fine Art and Commercial Art experiences. His wide breadth of experience together with his teaching enthusiasm makes him an asset to both students and faculty.
Camila completed her undergraduate degree in Fine Arts at York University specializing in Photography. She has won various awards and been published in a number of publications. Camila has worked in the industry for over 12 years and taught Visual Arts and Photography programs for the City of Mississauga, Henry’s, Vistek and Canon Canada. She’s been involved in various photography projects and is the Manager of an on-going project called "The Birthday Book Project", a collaboration between 12 Canadian Photographers. As a freelance photographer she has extensive experience in organizing and running small and large scale events, workshops and international trips.
